Back in 1946, Wally Johnson began to create the markets for both the aerial work platforms and scaffold towers all by himself. He accomplished this by starting a business which was called UpRight. Mr. Wally Johnson was a really skilled mechanical engineer who resided in Berkeley, California. He stumbled upon access machines when he began looking for a a way to paint his house.
While Mr. Johnson was embarking on his house painting project, he had a fruitless search for scaffolding that could handle the uneven ground which surrounded his house. After being extremely unsatisfied with his options, he decided to design his very own aluminum scaffold tower together with adjustable legs.
The Snorkel Company was also established the very same year within St. Joseph, Missouri. This small business helped to revolutionize the new elevating boom lift. The equipment was made for rescue and firefighting work. In less than twenty years, the technology had developed into self-propelled boom lifts.
During 1977, Snorkel sold its very first self-propelled lift. This specialized product line did not take long to become the company's main business.
It did not take long for Wallace Johnson to catapult to the top of the industry and attain global domination with his scaffold. When he had attained this field, he decided to start all over and invent the very first self-propelled aerial lift in the world.
Mr. Johnson during 1972, opened a factory within Selma, where he manufactured the "Flying Carpet" scissor lift. After this new and exciting machine exploded onto the marketplace, the ground-breaking product soon out-ranked the scaffolding component as the main source of income of the company.
Wallace Johnson passed away in the year 1980. At that time, the company UpRight Inc. was sold but his pioneering and inventive spirit lived on. In the year 1994, UpRight introduced the world's first micro-scissors. They went on to pioneer the TM12, that is the self-propelled mast lift.
